80s... or the bigger the hair the closer to God.

The 80s.. where to start? Yes it was the land of big hair, squared shoulder pads, more make-up than a clown car could hold, the mini skirt came back and nylons were still mandatory as part of the look.
I think the 80's at first was only an extension of where the 70's left off but ended abruptly on December the 8th 1980 when Lennon was shot. It took on new avenues at that point I think. I digress...
By mid '83 I had finished high school and hit the road full time and coast to coast as a lighting director for recording acts ( I shall not name drop as this is not relevant ). These tours that lasted four years brought me into contact with people out on the town for a good time every night and the ladies were tip top, unlike the overly casual flip flop wearing crew in the bars today. TV and movies got better, the cop shows were in full swing and so was sit com television. Obviously for me I only saw what I saw from a hotel TV or much later in syndication. Stephanie Powers was back looking better than ever since her April Dancer days.. bigger hair, classier clothes and finding peril every so often with elegant sophistication. Other highbrow shows like Dallas even got in on it. TJ Hooker had Heather Locklear, Fall Guy had Heather Thomas which is where we finally get to see Erin Grey get the treatment albeit brief. Simon and Simon tied ladies up like buzzards on a picnic. My all time fave had to be Stephanie Kramer in Hunter. Her character and the studio's wardrobe made her the poster girl for 80s look... never mind that she often had her cover blown and the bad guys grabbed her. There were guest characters that got the business as well. Even Matlock for the tea toddler set had a very well groomed Nancy Stafford... she once got captured and tied by two baddies and I'm not so sure she was acting when one put his hand on her silky knee.. she looked like she was going to be sick. Movies that stand out too included 'Big Trouble in Little China' with Kim Cattrel and along the same theme in I think the same year...'The Perils of Gwendoline' with Tawny Kitean. This as you may know was a watered down live action version of John Willie's 50's comic serial and bondage studies. I'll  throw in a Willie-esque tribute sometime. Oh and now that Gene Simmons of KISS has finally agreed to marry Shannon Tweed, it has to have mention here of her series of bodice ripper movies that came around in the day... seems the gall likes to be tied up... Gene, why din't ya say 'I do' a long time ago? I 'am so glad I lived in the 80's and got to witness such fun....
The final pic I made like many others but I think captures the 80's feel. I guess I'm a product of that time and my illustrations may all reflect an 80's look. I don't apologize.      El.

70's

Detective and adventure shows throughout the 70's and early 80's boasted a bevy of beauties in bindings.
Charlie's Angels was ripe for a good scene and the pic is from an episode called 'Marathon Angels' that found these two blondes swiped up by the baddies. I believe all the Angels took a turn at being tied but Kate Jackson was by far the one most likely to get trussed up. Later in Scarecrow and Mrs. King she was found to get tied as I recall. The pinnacle superhero of the time was Wonder Woman. The producers and writers got Lynda Carter going both ways, first as Wonder Woman and again as Diana Prince. She must have read the scripts in advance and just rolled her eyes. "Yep, tied up again". I included Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke even though I only recall her being bound twice. She wore those killer nylons and made short shorts into "Dasiy Dukes"..now a household name. Her sister Barbara did a magazine expose after finding fame as a Bond girl. That expose hinted at light bondage theme now that I think on it..... 'hmmm'.
To go along with this episode's theme the last pic is called 'Shameless' mostly due to her tee-shirt being a shameless plug for yours' truly. The run in her pantyhose may also be the reason. Seeing a trend here?

The 60's

'Gotham Librarian' was inspired from 60's tv shows and not just Batman and Robin. There was oodles of shows that paved a path of damsel in distress.. Man from Uncle or Girl From Uncle even more. Stephanie Powers as April Dancer was a milestone. Steph would spend the better part of the 60's and late 70's-80's in Hart to Hart tied up. Even Gilligan's gals had headhunter problems. The Avengers was a staple to the genre going back to the very early 60's and all the way through varied incarnations to the mid 70's. Linda Thorson as Tara King was a fave, although Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel was dipped in leather and had the 'can do' attitude of a closet dominatrix. Barbara Feldon as Agent 99 blew my mind as a tyke too.. why did a pretty lady in a sleek dress and sheer nylons look so amazing all tied up? That brings us to the very campy, tongue in cheek, tights lovin', homo-erotic soft core porn half hour of all time.. Batman. There was always a bevy of strange dressed bad guys to toss the boys in to soft core bondage.. all very colorful and odd. By the second season Neil Hamilton knew he better add a hot Batgirl to round out the fun. Yvonne Craig fleshed out many a young boy's fantasy. Hell, her opening scene was her getting kidnapped by the Penguin and tied to a chair in an abandoned apartment. Frank Gorshen's Riddler still can't be beat for mania, he freaked me out as a kid. Add in a fear of clowns, a Catwoman doniatrix and the recipe is set in stone. It took Jim Weathers and his Bondage Cafe to figure it all out in recent years via his masterpiece 'O-Girl' series and to mix in a large dash of fetish, an all girl cast, sheer pantyhose (more on that later), hitachi vibrators ... and I can't look away.

SuperGirl 1

Ohh... here is another earlier SuperGirl study and along with that was a piece I did using Kimberly Marvel as my subject. That was done several years back when she was starting out and MySpace was considered cool. She even asked me for permission to use it. Such a sweet lady.

Lois and Some Guy in Blue

Lois was the total version of the damsel in distress. Her many incarnations throughout time were all great, so I have several versions I'll post. Superman it seems always flew her to safety and always after he untied her. What was he thinking? Not on my watch. Maybe, just maybe I'm being too Grim.
